'Our newly built house overlooking Falmouth Harbour, curves around a hillside requiring every room to be a trapezoid shape. This makes building-in furniture a challenge; thus my brief to S Studio to design and build fitted bunk beds into a small bedroom, including steps (not a ladder) and having the capability for the bottom bunk to pull out into a double bed, was rather more tricky than usual. Simon developed sophisticated CAD drawings to show in 2-D the exact layout, construction, dimensions and how the beds would fit into the awkward space – and then by providing a link to 3-dimensional images on-line, I could really visualise the beds in situ from every possible angle. Whilst to some, it may seem an unnecessary expense, Simon’s design and drawing capabilities provided reassurance that he had accurately interpreted my brief and shows upfront what I am getting for my money. Investment in the design stage can be a cost-saving in the long run and in reality, vital for bespoke pieces of furniture.
Once the design was agreed, Simon proceeded to build the beds, coming back to site with the various elements to check accuracy of build against the uneven walls and odd shaped room. The result is fabulous. The finish is superb, it is built exactly to my brief – but with some added thought from Simon into the use of the cubbies in the space-saving stair as small storage areas with doors.
Simon has also designed and constructed three built-in bathroom vanities, two sets of wardrobes and a wonderfully engineered ‘floating’ desk for our new home, all to the same high standard as the bunks. I can thoroughly recommend his Studio’s work, Simon’s attention to detail and his willingness to listen to the Client, clearly interpreting the brief provided.'
